The Great Lakes have their own dangers and mysteries. However, over the recent years there have been reported sightings of shark fins breaking the surface of the water in some of these lakes. According to scientists, sharks getting into the Great Lakes is possible. One way these dangerous predators can secretly enter the lakes is through a ship's ballast. Another way is there have been bull sharks entering the Mississippi River from the Gulf of Mexico. They can travel 1,700 miles inland to the City of Alton, Illinois.
